The list of foods known to trigger heartburn is long, but some of the most common ones include high-fat foods like fried or fatty meats, full-fat dairy products (butter, cream cheese, sour cream), chocolate, peppermint and spearmint candy and gum, garlic, onions, spicy peppers and sauces such as hot sauce or salsa. Some carbonated drinks may also trigger your symptoms. Eating large meals can sometimes cause heartburn as well as lying down right after eating. Many citrus fruits and juices can also cause heartburn due to their acidic content. Keep in mind that everyone’s triggers are different so it’s important to pay attention to what makes your symptoms worse and adjust accordingly!
