An external rectal polyp is an abnormal growth in the wall of the colon, or large intestine. It occurs when tissue forms a small lump or overgrowth in the lining of the rectum. External rectal polyps can vary in size and shape, and are often red, pinkish-white, or yellowish-gray in color. They can be found on their own, mixed with other forms of tissue (such as mucus), or attached to the intestinal wall.

External rectal polyps can cause symptoms such as constipation and diarrhoea depending on their location and size. In some cases they may protrude from the anus causing pain during bowel movements along with bleeding from time to time. Additionally if these polyps become inflamed they may cause anal itching as well as soreness around your anus frequently leading to other distressing conditions like fecal incontinence due to an inconveniently located obstruction within your rectum which increases pressure on it resultantly affecting its functioning capacity negatively.

It is recommended that any individual experiencing these symptoms should consult a doctor for further examination like endoscopy, barium enema scan or sigmoidoscopy . Furthermore biopsy might also be needed based upon physical examination findings so that further treatment could be started timely before complications occur making this condition more challenging to treat effectively using conventional methods at hand only then one could get adequate relief so visit your healthcare provider without any delay if you experience any worrying signs related to this state right away!
