If skin cancer is left untreated, it can lead to serious health risks and even death. Untreated melanoma - the most dangerous type of skin cancer - can spread quickly to other organs, including the lungs and brain. This process is called metastasis, and it greatly increases a person's risk for developing further medical complications.
Other types of non-melanomas such as squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) or basal cell carcinomas (BCC) can also lead to health issues if left untreated. These non-melanoma cancers primarily affect the top layers of the epidermis but can still be life-threatening if allowed to progress unchecked. With SCCs in particular, they may cause disfiguring changes, like large open sores on exposed areas of the body; while with BCC’s, they commonly develop into open wounds that eventually scar over before turning into what looks like a raised shiny patch on your skin that continues growing indefinitely until treatment begins.
Unfortunately, these are not rare occurrences either: each year more than two million people are diagnosed with some form of non-melanoma skin cancer worldwide! For this reason alone it’s important not to ignore any suspicious lesions that appear on your body – particularly those located outside typically covered areas such as your face or backside – and instead seek immediate medical attention from a qualified dermatologist who will be able to provide you with an accurate diagnosis along with possible treatments options depending upon individual circumstances.
