Chest pain when walking fast is typically caused by strain on the muscles of your chest wall. This can be due to an underlying medical condition, such as coronary artery disease or costochondritis, or it can be from activities that involve repetitive movements such as running and jogging.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when cholesterol-filled plaque accumulates in the walls of the arteries that supply blood to your heart muscle, leading to a decrease in oxygen supply to your heart and causing chest pain when you exercise. Treatment for CAD often involves lifestyle changes including healthy eating habits, regular exercise, stress management techniques and quitting smoking.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage connecting a rib with the breastbone which can cause sharp chest pains that worsen while walking fast due to increased pressure placed on this joint during repetitive movement. Treatment usually requires rest and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen sodium.

In addition to these two medical conditions, chest pain could also be caused by stretching or overworking muscles along your rib cage due to intense physical activity such as running too much too soon without proper warming up before exercise. Furthermore, if you are dehydrated during high intensity workouts it can further increase your likelihood of developing GI issues like acid reflux which could add another layer of discomfort in addition to muscle strain around the ribs while exercising quickly; drinking plenty of water before working out may help reduce those symptoms significantly but speaking with a physician if they persist would be strongly recommended.
