What causes a sore throat after vomiting?

A sore throat after vomiting is usually caused by a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach back up, or “reflux” into the esophagus. This can lead to inflammation and irritation of the lining of the throat, which often results in a sore throat.
