Q. I've always wondered - if you have a breast lump, is it super obvious/easy to tell, even with large breasts?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
The answer to this really depends on the type of lump. Generally, there are two types of breast lumps – a cyst, which is not cancerous and is usually filled with fluid, or a solid mass that can either be benign or malignant. Cysts tend to be more obvious due to their size and feel, but can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from each other. On the other hand, it's harder for larger breasts to detect solid masses because they may not have well-defined edges that can easily be felt when doing a breast self-examination (BSE).
That said, if you find any suspicion lump in your breast regardless of its size or shape, you should always consult your physician for further medical tests such as an ultrasound imaging study if necessary. Even though some lumps are harmless and do not need treatment at all; early detection will help increase your chance of successful treatment significantly if you have cancer. Moreover due to advancements in modern medicine today most forms of breast cancer can now be treated effectively even with large sized breasts!
