There is no definitive answer to this question, as there are many different types of skin cancer and treatments differ depending on the type. However, with some types of skin cancer – such as basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas – it is possible to treat them without going to a doctor in certain cases.
The most common non-medical treatment for these forms of skin cancer involves applying creams containing 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) directly onto the affected area. 5-FU works by killing off pre-cancerous cells that have not yet spread or invaded other tissues. This can be done at home under supervision and guidance from a dermatologist, or alternatively through online self-help programs such as Treato™ Skin Cancer Care.
One should always consult a medical professional when faced with any form of skin cancer diagnosis, but in some instances it may be possible to use self care techniques without having resorting to surgery or other more invasive treatments typically used by doctors for treating skin cancers.
