Metastasis is the spread of a cancerous tumor throughout the body, and there are unfortunately no guarantees when it comes to surviving it. However, early detection is key - if found in its early stages, metastatic cancer can be treated successfully with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Additionally, new treatments like immunotherapy are promising options for limiting metastatic disease progression. While there is no guarantee that any of these treatments will always prevent or cure metastasis completely, they can often limit its effects and give patients more years with their loved ones before passing away. No matter how difficult or scary the situation may seem - hope should be held onto for those living with metastasis as many people have gone on to live long lives despite it.
