Twisting your spine while you sleep will not make you shorter. However, long-term poor posture can lead to spinal misalignment and muscle imbalances that can cause chronic back pain and even affect your height over time.
Poor posture can alter the natural curve of the spine, leading to a condition called "kyphosis" which is when there is an exaggerated outward curve in the mid-back area. This curvature creates compression on the discs between vertebrae and reduces their ability to absorb shock, resulting in decreased height due to loss of density in your intervertebral discs.
Furthermore, research has found that bad posture leads to chronically tight muscles like those along your spine and hips which causes increased tension on these regions making them less pliable over time-- thus leading to further decreases in height due to a decrease flexibility of these muscles. Overly tensed muscle also require more energy for regular movement so it could potentially mean lower physical activity levels as well if not addressed properly through stretching or strengthening exercises.
Overall,in order maintain healthy posture and optimal alignment throughout everyday life activities be sure practice core strength exercises daily such as planks, yoga poses (Downward Dog), leg raises etc., perform stretches targeting tight muscles around spine/hips, sit up straight with shoulders back/down without slouching throughout day for correct spinal curvature support! Additionally wearing proper shoes with arch supports may help provide additional stability for your feet when standing up or walking upright reducing stress on back musculature as well!
