When it comes to skin cancer, the lifespan of an individual depends on what type of skin cancer they have and how far it has progressed. Generally speaking, if a person is diagnosed with early stage melanoma or other forms of skin cancer that have not spread to other parts of the body, they can expect a much longer life expectancy than those with more advanced stages. This is because those in early stages will typically respond well enough to therapies such as surgery and radiation that their prognosis for life is highly favorable. On the other hand, individuals diagnosed with late-stage melanoma or metastatic skin cancers may only live for days, weeks or months depending on health and tumor characteristics.
Nonetheless, whatever type or stage of skin cancer a person may be dealing with, modern advances in medical technology are making great leaps forward every day in extending people's lives who suffer from this potentially deadly disease both through improved treatments and prevention programs such as increased awareness on sun safety practices like wearing sunscreen and limiting sun exposure when possible.
