After obtaining a BDS (Bachelor’s of Dental Surgery), one must complete postgraduate studies in order to pursue dental oncology. Depending on the country, many dental oncology courses are available at postgraduate level such as Master’s or PhD programs.

In India, students interested in pursuing dental oncology may begin their studies by first obtaining an MDS (Master's of Dental Surgery) degree in Oral Medicine and Radiology from institutions like Manipal Academy of Higher Education or Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.

It is also possible to pursue additional qualifications such as Fellowship Programs in Oral Oncology and Fellowship Programmes In Head & Neck Oncologic Reconstructive surgery offered by prestigious institutions such as Amrita Institute Of Medical Science, Kochi; Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; and AIMS Delhi etc.

Additionally, fellowships can also be pursued abroad and some notable universities which offer them include Harvard University - School Of Public Health; Stanford University - School Of Medicine; Penn State College Of Medicine; UCLA School Of Dentistry etc.. Furthermore organizations/ institutes like American Association for Dental Research provide financial aids for higher education abroad related to this specialization.

Ultimately it is important that dentists who wish to specialize in dental oncolgy stay up-to-date with the latest research advancements within this field so they are aware the most advanced treatments techniques like Photodynamic Therapy or Intraoral Laser Suction Biopsy which can aid early diagnosis but all these advances require skill sets obtained through knowledge obtained through continuous study after BDS degree.
