Yes, there is evidence that vitamin D can help prevent chest infections. In a study of over 1,000 healthy adults in the UK and Ireland, those with higher levels of vitamin D were 60% less likely to develop acute respiratory infections than those with lower levels. This suggests that supplementing our daily diets with additional sources of vitamin D could be beneficial for preventing chest infections.

In addition to helping protect against infection, studies have also shown that increasing your intake of vitamin D can help reduce chronic inflammation and promote immune system health in general. Vitamin D helps keep white blood cells healthy which are important for fighting off illnesses including chest infections. Furthermore, emerging research has found an association between high serum concentrations of 25-OH-vitamin D (a measure used to determine how much circulating vitamin D a person has) and decreased risk for asthma exacerbations requiring hospitalization or ER visits due to respiratory illness such as bronchitis or pneumonia.

It should also be noted that certain other factors influence the body's ability to absorb and utilize Vitamin D effectively; namely age, body weight/BMI, where you live geographically (whether you get enough sunshine year round), amount spent outdoors each day, skin color etc… To make sure we’re absorbing enough VitaminD it is important not only to supplement but also pay attention these other factors during the winter months when sunlight is limited most places around the world. So while increased levels of VitaminD may help prevent chest infections make sure you're taking advantage all its potential benefits by making adjustments accordingly!
