It is possible to experience hair loss from certain heart medications, but this is not a common side effect. Hair loss can be caused by some types of beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and ACE inhibitors. However, studies suggest that the risk for experiencing this rare side effect may depend on the dosage taken and duration of use.

For example, a study published in The Journal of Clinical & Experimental Neuroimmunology looked at 21 patients taking atenolol (a type of beta blocker). The study found that 12 out of 21 participants developed temporo-spatial alopecia—a form of hair loss more commonly known as “spot baldness”—after being exposed to this drug over a two-year period.

It's important to note that other factors such as genetics, skin diseases or lifestyle habits could also affect your chances of experiencing hair loss while taking heart medications. For instance, if you have had family members with alopecia areata or male pattern baldness before starting any new medication it could increase your risk for developing temporary or permanent hair loss while using it. Talk to your doctor about any risks associated with specific drugs so you can make an informed decision about how best to manage your cardiovascular health without risking further complications due to potential negative side effects like alopecia.
