No, a prostate biopsy is unlikely to make the cancer worse in any way. The procedure itself involves the insertion of thin needles into the prostate gland to collect tissue samples for further evaluation. This sampling process does not damage or change the cells in any way and therefore will not increase tumor size or speed up progression of the cancer. That being said, it is possible that some side effects may result from this minor invasive procedure such as localized pain, temporary urinary problems (e.g., blood in urine), and infections at/near needle sites. If you're concerned about these potential risks, talk with your doctor beforehand and discuss all options available to you so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not a prostate biopsy is right for you.
