The MD Anaesthesiology program at Madras Medical College & Research Institute (MMCRI) is a highly challenging academic endeavor that requires dedication and hard work. Students enrolled in this program will be exposed to five different specialties: anaesthesia, intensive care, pain medicine, medical education research and administration. Academically, the curriculum consists of comprehensive theoretical lectures and practical exercises in a variety of healthcare settings including operating theatres, ICUs and emergency rooms.

The daily workload can be quite demanding; students are expected to attend classes from 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays which may include labs where they practice their skills such as placing tracheal tubes or intubations on simulators or live patients. Additionally, PG interns have duties in the OT for around 3 hours each day - i.e 6 days/week! In addition to these clinical duties, there is also course related assignments that must be completed such as weekly case presentations and monthly exams amidst other activities like Journal Club participation etc., resulting in minimal free time on hand. It goes without saying then that aspiring anaesthesiologists at MMCRI should prepare themselves mentally for the hard work ahead!
