Hematuria is the presence of red blood cells in the urine. It can be caused by a number of different conditions such as urinary tract infections, bladder stones, kidney stones, enlarged prostate glands or trauma to the kidney or bladder. Proteinuria is an abnormal amount of protein found in the urine and it may indicate an underlying disorder in the kidneys.
It is possible to have hematuria without proteinuria but this can indicate any number of potential causes. Some common causes include glomerulonephritis (inflammation of your kidney’s filtering system) and interstitial nephritis (inflammation within your kidneys). Glomerulonephritis results when your body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells located within your kidneys. Interstitial nephritis occurs when one or more drugs cause inflammation inside your kidneys which leads to hematuria without proteinuria being present. Additionally, some types of cancer like Wilms’ tumor can cause hematuria without proteinuria as well as injuries caused by trauma to the bladder and urethra that can result in bleeding into urine also known as gross hematuria or macroscopic hematuria where no proteins are present either due to intact capillaries not releasing proteins into tubules during passage through them or simply because injury resulted from direct trauma instead of some metabolic disturbance linked with release/leakage/breakdown etc..
In medical practice, once discovering that you have Hematuria without associated Proteinuria other diagnostic tests are recommend such as imaging studies like ultrasound scan , CT Scanning or MRI , Urinalysis , Urine Culture (culture and sensitivity test) for viruses & bacteria etc.... All these tests will help you get closer towards getting accurate diagnosis .
