Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland and can be caused by a variety of bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. With proper diagnosis and treatment, prostatitis can generally be effectively cured.

The most common type of prostatitis is acute bacterial prostatitis caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Typical symptoms include fever, chills, lower abdominal pain and urinary frequency or urgency. This condition is usually treated with antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole for at least four to six weeks depending on the severity of infection and antibiotic susceptibility results from cultures. Antibiotics are very effective at eliminating E. coli infections in those suffering from prostatitis but there may be cases where concentrated doses over longer periods may be required to fully eradicate the infection if it is severe or recurrent in nature.

Other types of prostatitis such as chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBPro) are more difficult to treat because they tend to involve bacteria that don't respond well to commonly prescribed medications like antibiotics and antifungals; this form of prostatitis has been linked to non-infectious causes such as autoimmune disease or stress related conditions which makes treating it even more challenging since the root cause must firstly be identified before effective treatment can begin.. For these cases, a combination of lifestyle changes including improved diet quality paired with medical treatments are often necessary for successful long-term outcomes including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), alpha-blockers for symptom relief along with antibiotics when appropriate all aimed towards restoring normal function back within the prostate gland itself as well reducing inflammation throughout any other affected areas in order to improve both quality and length life span too!
