Pyrosis (heartburn) is caused by acid reflux, which is when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus. Esophageal pyrosis is a relatively common complication of this reflux.
There are many ways to treat acid reflux and its associated pyrosis. You can try lifestyle changes such as losing weight, eating smaller meals, and avoiding Trigger Foods. You can also take medications such as antacids, H2 blockers, or proton pump inhibitors. If these measures don't work, you may need surgery to correct the underlying problem.
