Q.

How can you stop a vaginal rash that is painful and almost like cuts? It goes away and comes up in a new spot only in the vagina. I even stopped wearing panties.

A vaginal rash that is painful and resembles cuts could be caused by various factors, such as a yeast infection, contact dermatitis, or an STD. Regardless of the underlying cause, there are steps you can take to alleviate the symptoms and eventually get rid of the rash.

The first step is to speak with your doctor or gynecologist about your rash in order to determine what is causing it. Once you have identified the root cause of your rash, you can begin treatment accordingly. Treatment for a yeast infection may involve antifungal medications such as fluconazole (Diflucan) or clotrimazole (Lotrimin). If you were diagnosed with contact dermatitis due to wearing tight-fitting clothing or from using scented body products such as soaps, lotions detergents etc., then avoiding those products and trying over-the-counter remedies like hydrocortisone cream may help alleviate symptoms. Lastly, if you believe that an STD might be causing your rash then you should discuss treatment options with your doctor.

On top of medication prescribed by a physician or recommended OTC treatments for the underlying condition associated with this kind of vaginal rash, there are also some lifestyle changes that will help manage symptoms until they completely go away:
• Wearing loose-fitting cotton underwear rather than synthetic fabrics   • Avoiding douching and harsh soaps near your genitals  • Wiping front-to-back after using the restroom instead of back–to–front  • Avoiding sexual intercourse until the uncomfortable feeling subsides   • Trying cold compresses on affected area several times per day
Additionally it’s important that women afflicted use mild soap when washing their intimate areas as many fragrant soaps contain compounds which can increase irritation in these sensitive areas .Also drinking plenty water ,fruit juices & green tea which helps detoxify skin cells thereby improving healing process .So always make sure that intake plenty fluids during this period .Finally keeping genital area dry after baths & swimming helps too!
