This sounds like a condition known as "Tonsilloliths," or tonsil stones. Tonsil stones are clumps of calcium and other minerals that form in the pockets of your tonsils, commonly causing pain and swelling.
In some cases, they may cause difficulty swallowing or even bad breath. Treatment can involve antibiotics to reduce the bacterial content of your throat and reduce inflammation as well as surgery to ensure that any remaining debris is properly removed. Along with this treatment, you should try hot compresses over the swollen area which will help to reduce swelling and irritation. Additionally, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene since bacteria play a role in their formation; brushing twice daily and flossing regularly will help ensure that these particles do not accumulate in your throat.
