I would not recommend Dr Shilpa Nayak after our visit. We paid Rs 5,000 for my father’s allergy test on 8 September following our family physician’s referral. My concern was simple: my father did not fully hear some of the diet instructions, and when I asked for clarification the next day, the question was not resolved.
My father is over 70, wears a hearing aid, and has diabetes and other health problems. We told the assistant and doctor about his hearing difficulty. During testing, I asked questions because this was his first allergy test. Afterwards, the doctor explained the procedure mainly to me while my father also tried to ask questions. I understood why she spoke to me, but he still needed to understand the food restrictions he had to follow himself.
He was advised to avoid several foods for one month, including milk products, egg, chicken, urad dal and walnut. I remember being told verbally to avoid tree nuts. The next day my father noticed that the report mentioned walnut but not almond. I asked the clinic whether almond and other tree nuts were included, and asked about peanuts, channa and fruits. I also asked what foods could replace the items removed because of his diabetes. These were questions about the diet already given. I was told to book another consultation for clarification.
The next morning, another employee told me the doctor was out of town for 10 days. Later I was told she was in a meeting and would call back. * * When I reached the doctor, she asked me to contact our general physician, although he was the doctor who had referred us to her for the allergy test. I sent the report and questions again.
I explained again that my father had not heard the instruction clearly. The food questions were still not answered. I would have understood being told that the doctor was busy and would respond later. Instead, I had to work out which foods my father should avoid. The clinic had given me different information about the doctor’s availability, and the food questions remained unanswered. I wanted clarity on the diet instructions given to a hearing-impaired senior citizen who had to follow them for one month. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend her.
