Mesacol tablet is used to treat ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. It works by inhibiting and producing certain chemical substances such as prostaglandins that cause inflammation in the intestines. This reduces ulceration, bleeding, stomach pain and prevents future flare-ups of the disease.
Mesacol tablets should be taken with food. The dose will be given based on your medical condition as prescribed by the doctor. Medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor.
If you stop treatment too early, your symptoms may come back, and your condition may worsen. Caution must be followed as excess consumption leads to serious adverse effects.
The most common side effects are nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, itching, flatulence, vomiting, dizziness, joint pain & muscle pain. If the symptoms persist or worsen, you need to consult your doctor immediately. You should drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication and make sure you stay hydrated.
Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant, or have liver & kidney problems, and using any other medication. This medication is unsafe in both pregnancy and breastfeeding.
