Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium, which is normally the lining of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus. Symptoms can include pelvic pain, infertility, and abnormal bleeding.
The cause of endometriosis is not currently known, but it may be due to retrograde menstruation (the backward flow of menstrual blood through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvis). Treatment options include medications and surgery.
