Treatment of proctalgia fugax is mostly symptomatic and depends on the severity of symptoms. Mild cases may only require reassurance that the condition is benign and self-limited. More severe cases may require treatment with medications such as tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants, or muscle relaxants.
